BS34 to BS34SS Swap
Hello, I am looking for new carbs for my 77 GS400 which has the BS34 carbs. Unfortunately, these were only used on one model, for one year I believe, so finding a replacement has been hard. I looked at the spec sheet on BassCliffs website and the jetting is a bit different for the BS34SS but they look almost the exact same. I was wondering if anyone had any experience switching between these carbs or could offer me any advice on whether it would work. Thank you.Tags: None

Switching between the two variants should be no problem. The engine is the same.Ed

Dude, there are too many separate threads on this same topic. Please keep the discussion together for better information sharing.
Regarding changing carbs, if you do so, keep the jetting native to the carbs in question. Don't mix and match jets between different models of carbs because things like the air jets, and slide cutaway, affect the jetting.
That said, I'd focus my attention on getting the broken screw tip out. It can be done, as evidenced by many that have done so before you.
Get a pin or pick tool, and try to push the tip backwards. Or reach in though the threads and try to knock the tip sideways, dislodging it. There are ways...Ed

I have a pick tool, the problem is that the tip does not poke through the carb throat so there is nowhere to push it back through.Last edited by gorillafan208; 04-19-2023, 10:46 AM.

you can also try putting the carb body in a ultra sonic cleaner, preferable a self heating type.
If you don't have one try to become friends with a small automotive shop that may, see if you can use theirs for a small fee.
the heat and the shaking may loosen the tip, no guarantees.78 GS1000 Yosh replica racer project

Hey guys, I ended up just getting a new set of GS450 replacement carbs. They are very clean and in good condition the only annoyance is that one of the mixture screws is missing and I am having trouble finding a replacement. Looking on Suzuki Parts House, I wasn't able to find the part number for one of these guys and couldn't find them on Jetsrus either. I tried looking on ebay, but couldn't find the exact same one. I am guessing the carbs are from a 450L, as they look like these ones from the 1980 GS450L carb cleaning guide on BassCliff's website. Anyone know the part number or know a place where I could get one?Attached Files

I have, I haven't found any that match it. It's weird, someone found a replacement mixture screw for my BS34 carbs in like 30 seconds while I can't find any for these BS34S carbs which were way more prevalent. This may be a dumb question, but if I find one that has the same length and width at the tip would that work as a replacement if I can't find an exact match?Last edited by gorillafan208; 04-29-2023, 06:35 PM.

Just use the screw and o-rings you need the chuck the rest, it'll avoid a lot of headaches trying to get the knock off parts to work right1980 Yamaha XS1100G (Current bike)
