Type of ignition in GS450E '81
Wanting to get an Acewell for my cafe project but have heard rumors about cdi ignitions messing them up. Anyone running an Acewell on a 450? Hate to spend $200 on a guage just hook it up and fry it.Tags: None

Ed is right (as usual), it is electronic, but it's not CDI.

Ok, just had a look through the Alpha Sports fiche... how do we know it's not CDI?
I know what CDI ignition is (capacitor discharge, capacitor is charged and discharge fires spark I'm pretty sure), but I have no idea how to tell whether it's CDI or not.
The electronic ignition is transistorised right?
Steve, as a side note, are you going to get that scrambler going? I wanna see what you can do with it, it's one of my inspiration models for what I hope will be my 450 scrambler.1982 GS450E - The Wee Beastie

Getting the Scrambler going is on the list, but it sort of requires me to be home to do it.
My current job has me traveling most of the time, so there is barely time at home to do any maintenance on the bikes, let alone a project.
I will be home for at least a week over Thanksgiving, but most of that time will be doing some minor repairs to ALL of the bikes that are currently running, so still no time for the Scrambler.
Thanks for the interest, but please don't hold your breath.

Haven't been on in a little while. I think the hard part will be doing the speedo set up with the magnets and pick ups. Definitely will take pics as I go.

hillsy- Thanks for the idea, that would be much cleaner.
One of my main goals with this build is the cleaner the better. In my opinion I think that's where the chopper builds go bad, to much crap tacked to two wheels. Another reason I love the cafe bikes, simple and only what you need to be functional.
