I made a sync tool once and used these http://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/partno/08-0218/.
I didn't have very good luck with the whole contraption. The brass fittings get hot and the rubber hose starts slipping off when the bike gets warm. I ended up buying a Morgan Carbsync which comes with plastic fittings that are made to resist high heat.

You need 5mm adapters.
Good luck with building one.

I say +1 for the Carbtune Pro. I got the 4 cylinder one for a Christmas present and it's awesome.1982 GS450E - The Wee Beastie
