Bottom engine mount missing
I think on my bike the bottom engine mount is missing. There is a bracket on the frame and a hole all the way through the engine under the stater cover area. How important is it that its there?Tags: None

elevatorman71 seems to have some 450 parts around at the moment, so probably worth PM'ing him to see if he has what you need.
There's a bracket attached to the frame on one side, and the other side of the frame has two bolt holes that a bracket attaches to and a bolt that goes all the way through.
Number 6 is the bracket on this fiche, with 2 x 7 and 8 to attach it to the frame:
If you look at the Crankcase fiche, it looks like 22 or 23 is the long bolt but I can't read the numbers properly.1982 GS450E - The Wee Beastie

If you decide to add the missing bolt, make certain that you don't replace it with a longer one and crack the engine case.
The factory egg-shaped nut is much easier to install than a common hex nut.
I have a much larger/more powerful engine in a smaller bike and it hasn't had those mounts bolted to the engine in many years.
On such a small engine, I doubt that it will hurt to leave it out.
If you can find the correct parts, go ahead and add them.

It's your bike so it's your choice, but if Suzuki did not feel it was important they would not have spend the engineering and manufacturing money to put it there.

The key to installing the bolt is getting the stock Suzuki oblong shaped nut. As mentioned already, it's much easier to install this nut due to access issues. I have some of those spare nuts, and bolts too although I'd need to know how long. PM me if you don't feel like ordering though a dealership source.Ed

You're not the first person to find this bolt/nut missing, myself included. Blue Loctite and washers will help ensure it does not disappear again.
I'm with Ed though - I would replace, but I think it's OK to ride in the meantime. Mine was missing for who-knows-how-long and I never would have noticed except I just-so-happened to look. Make sure your other mounting points are appropriately tightened.
