Getting more of a rumble out of a 450

I want my bike to be louder. I do not want an aftermarket exhaust. I have a stock air box and exhaust. Has anyone drilled 2 or 4 small holes in the end of the exhaust? Did you have to re jet? Any other mods available?

Well... I went the custom route which solved that problem

However, anything you do to the exhaust that results in flowing more exhaust gases will likely result in a need to rejet...

I can't remember but is your exhaust in good condition? If so, it may be better to offload it to someone looking for a stock exhaust so you can get yourself a freer flowing 2 to 1 or something...

I would... you might end up finding someone wanting the opposite and can do you a deal for something that works better for you

In the State of Maine, drilling holes in the exhaust will prevent your machine from passing inspection, so my local inspection station has informed me.

I drilled mine out...the three little fake holes in the back of the cans. It helped a little. Got a bit better sound and runs a little stronger...still with stock jets.

              Don't expect a V-Twin rumble though...

I did that on my 650, bad idea...I ended up welding it back up!

I lost a lot of power, especially top end.
It caused a lean condition too.
It only sounded good at certain RPM's, and sounded like a Farty dirt bike the rest of the time.

Not sure about the 2 bangers, but the 4 cylinders, you need a re-jet.

I got mine to sound a little like a Triumph...which was a bit better.

I probably should try and get a decent sound bite from mine one day... not that it will help anything in this thread
