Those are great little bikes. Only two things not to like IMHO. A bit of a heavy clutch pull and the odd ball choke mechanism. You need three hands to start it as the choke knob is on the carb rail and you have to hold it out while simultaneously pulling in clutch and thumbing the go button I used a set of vice grips to hold the choke on.
Other than that they are bags of fun, light and flickable, obviously not super powered but entertaining.
Enjoy.

I have an easy solution to the clutch + choke fun... make an adaptor like I did to replace the choke lever on the carb, get a left control block from a later GSX of some sort with the choke lever on it, and you can run another throttle cable from there to your carb and have a 'bar mounted choke... easy1982 GS450E - The Wee Beastie

Its better It probably has the upgrades in it. such as better exhaust rockers that don't score the cam's and a two piece clutch pushrod that doesn't wear out the oil seal.
What does the engine code start with ?
GS40x is 1st generation and K,,,,, is the next gen.
All black engines I've seen have been the next gen.
Good find.

Three hands.
Why not open up the headlamp and delete the clutch safety switch?
Only one of my bikes still has one that is in working/stock configuration and it WILL get changed.
I keep forgetting to rectify that until I go to start it.
BTW, nice STEAL on the second bike. I would be all over it also!

Where are the fuse located on this bike?
I only found a cylindrical shaped one by the battery.
Reason I ask is that I turn the key to the on position (with a new battery of course) and there is nothing happening. No lights, no start etc...
Howerver I nonnected both poles of the selenoid together and the motor turns over (but no spark of course)

Replace that with a new inline blade style, should be 15amp I believe.
The old glass ones are far too unreliable.1982 GS450E - The Wee Beastie

Off to Canadian Tire yet again!
I did swap the wheels between the 83 and the 80 because the tires on the 83 were far better and I daily the 80.
