    Shift Fork Wear

I was just wondering what folks' experience is with how quickly shift forks wear down on these bikes. I've got a '80 450L with 25k miles on it. I've taken the engine apart and my left and middle forks are worn down to near the service limit, according to the specs in my Clymer manual anyway (end thickness approaching 5.2mm).

The prudent in me says I'm not going to be cracking the case again any time soon, so I should get new forks, but the cheap in me has trouble spending spending about $100 on two new forks when I can get a used set for about 20 bucks off ebay.

But are all the used sets gonna be just as worn, or is mine the abnormal case? 6th gear on the main shaft is all chewed up, so I suspect transmission abuse in the past, and I'll be looking for a used tranny too.

I would go the 20 dollar route.

You can find whole bikes for 200$ quite often.
