    1978 GS400 rear wheel on 1981 GS450

1978 rear wheel on 1981 - direct fit?

    I know a 1986 wheel will go right onto a 1981 model.

Anyone knows if the rear wheel from a 1978 will fit a a 1981 model?

I will say YES because I put a wheel FROM an 82-?--3 GS 450 ONTO a 78GS400.. only thing additional was the brake backing plate was changed since it was a different size, and had to match the wheel. other than that .. a direct swap!!

Tom put my 1980 GS450S wheel on his GS400.

I have his GS400 wheel - it's the right side of the wheel (that the brake shoes mount to) that changed. I haven't checked the sprocket carrier though. Tom could tell you if that is a different size.
