Chain to belt drive conversion?
I'm just curious having read a bit on the chain vs belt vs direct drive topic. Has anyone tried a chain to belt conversion on any of the GS bikes?

Have not heard of anybody attempting it or doing it successfully.
I would imagine that there would be a bit of engineering and fabrication to get the front end covered.
Is there even room at the frame to run a belt? I know they are wider than a chain, but don't know how much.

chain to belt conversion.......................
hi guys ,,,if you go to the yamaha xs650 club in australia,,,, a guy there has converted chain to belt drive,,,, it was EXPENSIVE to do ,,, as the pulleys do not come standard ,,, they are blank set ups,, so you need to bore and key,,, machine to widthans also make sure you space correctly the line up from front to rear,,,, regards oldgrumpy

it may be possible to make a rear "pulley" from, say a Harley to fit the rear wheel with a bit of machining. the front pulley you can get pulleys off the shelf with a splined taper lock. whether you could get the same spline as the GS shaft i dont know. the belts are only about 30mm wide i think1978 GS1085.
Just remember, an opinion without 3.14 is just an onion!
