    my bike wont start

86 Suzuki gs450 won't start. Good spark, rebuilt carbs, cranks over good, won't fire. I'll at a loss. Any ideas? Vaccuum needed on carbs? I don't know what the lines are, I forgot. There's a line from the top of the right carb. And then one on each carb on the sides inside, I belive those are for the floats??? Please help.oh, timing is good, valves are good. I think, from what I read they need to be .001-.003 intake and exhaust.any help would be great.

Is there fuel in bowls? That line on top of right carb is probably vacuum line to petcock- another line from petcock feeds the fuel to a tee between the carbs. Other lines could be fuel bowl vents
Is this a Calif bike- any emissions stuff?
Do you understand how "choke" system works- activate "choke' fully", use NO throttle and crank? if no sign of life after a little cranking, pull spark plug to look for some fuel

Also may need to prime the carbs.

Either use prime on the fuel tap if there is one or if it's like mine there's a brass screw beside the tap. Undo that, wait 30 sec's, do it up again.

Well my valves are wrong. I know that now. I think, I've read the clearances from 3 different sources and they all say different things. Anyone know what they are supposed to be? And also, to Pete, how do I prime the carbs? I've never owned a gs before. If you have pics that would help also. Thanks guys

The metric sizes for the valve clearances are 0.04mm to 0.08mm, not sure what that translates to in inches though...

As for prime, either your tap will have a position marked "PRI" or, if it's like mine there'll be a brass flat headed screw beside the top like this:

Undo that screw a turn or so, wait 30 seconds, then do it back up again.

All it does is let the fuel flow so you don't want to leave it undone.
