Get an engine casing from a 2004+ bike and use the once built into the engine, Besides that there isn't any easy way except to make your own oil filter cover and use a remote oil filter.

Definitely the bottom half of the case. I'm not 100% certain, but the fittings and all routing are in the bottom half.

It should be fairly easy to find a late model GS500 motor though. Where are you located tubbz?

            Eastern part of the US.

Hopefully somebody with more experience than myself chimes in, but I believe you'll need a matching set of cases. Something makes me think of the main bearings around the crankshaft.

But the GS500 is a fairly popular bike in OZ, isn't it? Due to the learner laws you folks have......either way, good luck man. Hopefully it all works out for you.

Case halves are machined for bearing sizes but if you look at the back of the case you can find the bearing size needed for that case.

You need the letters on the back of the case and the leters on the crank and counter ballance shaft.

Put the letter on the crank together with the letter on the case and that tells you that you need shim A B or C, they are actually color coded for the sizes but you get the idea.

Best thing to do is get a whole engine or just bottom end so that you at least have something that is machine matched.

But the other way to go is to remove the oil filter cover and tap the two holes in there. Then install fittings and run lines from there to an external filter ( could even use a screw on filter) and then run the lines to your cooler. Just keep the lines big enough to not choke the oil flow.

You could use something like an automotive transmission cooler.

Just be careful when your taping the holes in the case if you go that way. Try and keep all the filings out and even flush the ports out after your done.
