Figured it out - it as the vacuum line on the carb. When i hooked it back up i ran the line between the tank and the frame rail which i believe was pinching off the line. once i rerouted it the bike is running fine. I appreciate all of your help!

Welp.. More bad news haha Prior to doing valve cover the bike was running pretty good - idling good when warm, but was a little lean. After doing the valve cover while driving to my parents house to check everything the bike started misfiring on what feels like the right piston. It would cause it to stall out at idle. So i got it to my parents and startted checking for a vacuum leak to see if that was leaning it out. The one boot that connects the carb to the block didnt have a gasket in it, so i made a o-ring real quick put that in, but still didn't help much.
I'm thinking when i took off the gastank I may have knocked something loose that got into the carb and clogged one of the jets up. Tried messing with the mixture screws, but it didn't do much. Got the bike idling ok, but then when i was riding the bike would be alright then suddenly start surging then stall out.

You don't need a carb rebuild kit; just get the orings from Robert Barr (www.cycleorings.com) and the bowl gaskets from Z1 or your favorite Suzuki dealerCowboy Up or Quit. - Run Free Lou and Rest in Peace

After it stalls and has sat a while does it run ok then? Then start the missing and stalling over again?MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

I'm looking at http://www.cycleorings.com/ website and seems like he only has carb rebuild kit for 80-82's not later years for the 450

Prior to the valve cover replacement the bike was running pretty good ( a little lean) but wasn't bad. I'm thinking that when i was trying to get the valve cover off from knocking it around that I knocked some crud loose in the carb. Also the carb boot(not sure if im calling it the right name) that connects carb to the motor didn't have a gasket.

Shaking the tank while taking it off probably stirred up old silt. I would check the petcock screen and rinse the crap out of the tank while your getting the carbs rebuilt. Fully clean the entire fuel delivery system and put on new fuel line.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)
