Exhaust Valve question + Head Gasket question

I pulled apart the heads on my 1982 Suzuki gs450tx ... well i have a burnt exhaust valve

my question is does anyone know where to get an exhaust valve?


also second question.... is there supposed to be a head gasket separating the block and the valve head? because mine definitely did not have it when i pulled it apart


also dont mind a used exhaust valve

That ebay valve should work. You need one of the two part numbers listed below.

You didn't have a head gasket? That's crazy..... yes, you'll need one, but look around online for a parts diagram. You're probably missing the little orings that go on the cylinder studs too.

Have you removed all the valves and checked them as well?

thats what i figured, and no i did not have the orings... however i atleast had the copper washers....

do the orings go between the head and the block?

and no i bought the bike not running, i think he pulled it apart and put it back together and sold it as "not running"

Ha.... yeah, there ya go.

I was mistaken about the orings I mentioned - I'm working on a GR650 engine and it uses them. But have a look here:

If you look under "cylinder" and "cylinder head" you'll see all the gaskets and such you'll need (don't forget the cylinder base gasket between the case and cylinders). Check the service manual to find out what all is needed to get your engine back into shape. May as well do it once now and run it for another 30 years....

If you pulled the head then you'll want the base gasket as well

If that's your bike , looks like you have a headgasket (or two). There is something weird about it though, like two home made patches were added on top of an old gasket ? Can't figure it out just yet.

You need to remove all the valves and take an inventory. The other valves may be damaged as well, just not as badly.

You can get a large C-clamp from Harbor freight for cheap. Then go to the hardware store and purchase a piece of PVC pipe, or pipe fitting of some sort, of the appropriate diameter and cut a small window in it so you can access the split locks. I made one like the white PCV shown below, only I used a gray PVC pipe fitting which is thicker and stronger than the white schedule 40 pipe.
