    Engine Racing

I have 1977 GS 750. When I'm in fifth gear running about 60 miles an hour, and I gun the throttle the tachometer jumps from 4000 to 6000 RPM. It sounds as though I missed a gear, or the clutche is in. And then the bike takes off. Is this a clutch problem? It sometimes does this in third gear also.

Sounds like the clutch is slipping.

When consulting the magic 8 ball for advice, one must first ask it "will your answers be accurate?"

Probably time to inspect the clutch if you catch it early enouhh you may get away with replacing just springs. These clutches can take some punishment before giving up ship

First thing to do is to make sure the cable is not adjusted so tight that it is not allowing the clutch to grab properly.

If there is a bit of play, which shows that the clutch is fully-engaged, THEN you start playing with parts replacement.

Let me know if you need help, I'm just down the road from you.
