    New (to me motor)

I just picked up a 81gs 450 motor to replace my 82's motor which spun a crank bearing a few months back.

I have the stator side cover and the clutch side cover off; the new to me motor is on a bench with easy access to everything.

Is there anything i should do while i have the motor down at this point to maintanance wise to make this motor last?

Im planning on replacing the friction disks already, the old ones are burnt up.

a new to me motor on the workbench i would check compression first.
Take off valve cover, check cam chain length, visually check cam lobes for wear, replace valve seals and set valves.
Change o-rings on cam chain tensioner and rev worm wheel.
i would take the opportunity to take off the oil pan and check oil pump filter, and all parts visible from there.
Replace oil filter, add oil once it is in the bike.
Replace intake boot o-rings and boots if needed.
