    Gs850 engine noise

Hey all, are these engines typically noises? I’m a little concerned as I just changed the oil on my 79 850 and about had a heart attack when I saw the oil. The oil definitely had something shiny in it. Do these things typically eat bearings in the engine?

gee! No! And not typically noisier than other bikes. Quieter than many though Honda's may have an edge IMO

The roller bearing cranks in the 8 V engines are virtually indestructible.
they will continue to run on little/no oil The shiny bits were in the oil, and not stuck to the magnet in the drain nut?

Yes it was in the oil not the magnet. I talked to the previous owner and he said when he “rebuilt” the carbs he did something wrong and a bunch of gas got in the engine so I’m assuming that washed the 43 years of stuff built up in the engine down. I’m gonna adjust the valves this weekend and I’m hoping I’ll be good after that.
