I did a bit of reading various posts, and it seems the black drive splines are still highly sought after. Are they more or less desirable than the gold ones? The silver seem to be mediocre. Is this correct? I see lots of used splines from things like a GV1400, are they any good?

The first black spline from the 1979 850 was recalled because the bolts holding it in the wheel could come loose. The new spline, which is also black, is more robust. If you have the first variant, welding the bolts in place will keep them from coming loose. RustyBronco made such a mod.Ed
