    Pitting

    Was able see an intake valve pretty clearly while checking my plugs, pitting on it, what do you guys think? Bike starts right up and runs idles good.

      Looks bad. Reminds me of an engine with neglected valve adjustments.

        The valve looks like many I've seen since lead was phased out of fuel.

        If the motor still has compression within the limits in the manual, I'd keep riding it.

          I wouldn't even check the compression. Bottom line is: "starts, runs, idles good..." so, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

          Does it pull strong to redline in every gear except top? If so, then just ride it.

          2016 XL883L sigpic Two-tone blue and white. Almost 42 hp! Status: destroyed, now owned by the insurance company. The hole in my memory starts an hour before the accident and ends 24 hours after.

            Thanks for the varied responses! Since I'm more of a paint/fabricator than mechanic I will go for the just ride it and if it turns into an unrideable mess then I will open engine up.

              Did you check and adjust valve clearances as needed?

                Yes, some were on tighter side, shimmed to make them on wider end of range gap, .08 .09 mm
