79 and 80 model GS850G Engine part options

    HI guys.

I am going to rebuild both my GS850 G top ends over the next 12 months. The 79 kickstart model is probably going to be left until last, even though I prefer that motor and carb combo.
Basically on both engines, I will be doing pistons, rings, valve springs, and valve lapping (possibly replacing some on the 79 as that motor appears to be pretty rough).
I'll inspect and replace cams if needed, check all bearings on the bottom end, go through all the gears, etc.

From my searches online, it appears that the 850g is somewhat the forgotten stepchild regarding new parts. There are tons of performance parts and upgrades for the bigger and smaller engines but the 850g seems to have pretty slim pickings.
Im curious if the CrusinImage kits are passable. For that price its hard to ignore.

What other brands are there that are still making kits for the 850g? Usually Ive stuck with Wiseco and Wossner but they don't seem to have products.

Id also appreciate advice on valve and valve spring options and potential cam upgrades if I need to replace any. Thanks guys

I've used cruzinimage.net piston rings and rubber parts on a couple of different bikes without any issues.

Just put a set of their rings and airbox boots in the "new to me" '79 850G that is my winter project!

When I die, just cremate me and put me in my GS tank. That way I can go through these carbs, one more time!https://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/core/images/smilies/cool.png

Don't assume anything. You have to bust down the engine, inspect, and measure, before you know what needs replacing. Unless there is corrosion damage, or more than 75,000 miles, it's quite likely that a hone, rings, valve lap, will get the bike down the road for a goodly more miles.

      To measure is to know.

I believe the engines will be minimal work. This is more of a hobby build for me. I enjoy rebuilding engines and I'm keen to work on something more complicated that the si gle and twin engines I'm used to

Lobes are looking really good on both cams.

If you have stock pistons and only need a set of rings, IMD Pistons has a listing. I've used IMD rings in my 1980 1000GT - so far so good
