    Drain plug torque.

    Hi all.
I am trying to find the correct Torque setting for the oil drain plug on my 1980 GS850G. I am coming across conflicting values from the manual and Google searches.
    Best regards

Please don't blindly "torque" based on some spec in the service manual, even the factory manual.

Tighten the drain plug "enough". What the hell does that mean? Well, you have to use some "judgement". Assuming the crush washer is still viable, feel where the drain screw and washer start to compress, then go a 1/4 turn, or so, further. Feel comes into play here. Never over tighten.

Can confirm what Ed said. Pulled the threads right out of my oil pan when I went too many uga-duggas.

        Thanks again as always.

Between 7 and 17 ft/lb was being quoted from different sources.
Hope you are safe in California.

        Best regards

ED i never reuse a crush washer. New everytime for me. Ive had bad threads on bikes and go with a +1 plug. Just be as careful as you can on getting it straight as possible. Then of course a new washer
