    Oil in a cylinder

I had put the maroon 1000C away a few years ago because it was smoking and i suspected the valve stem seals. Fast forward to this week i opened it up and when i cracked the head loose about a little less than a teaspoon of oil ran out of cylinder 4. Ive done many top ends and not one had oil come out of a jug when opened up. Plug was also wet with oil. Rings were pretty new without many miles on them. I checked the oil control ring and the ends are as they should be and not overlapped at the ends.
So my thinking is that even though it all "LOOKS" as it should i suspect the oil ring has allowed raw oil to pump up to the combustion chamber. I also thought of a broke valve guide but when i replaced all the valve stem seals none of the guides came apart so im eliminating a broke guide.
So what does the beehive say? Am i on track with being suspect of the oil control ring.
Im also gonna check the second ring wasnt installed upside down. I could have inadvertently did that too.

That oil collected during storage, and it didn't get past the rings and into the cylinder. A bad oil passage O-ring and failed head gasket is possible, but more likely, valve stem seals.

Ed. It started smoking and wouldnt clear up after a while so thats why i initially shoved it aside and made my KZ my daily. I just put the new stem seals in the other day and like i said there werent any broke guides. I would think if a guide was broke the top chunk would have just fell out when i took the valve out but that didnt happen.
I have a set of rings on the shelf so im just gonna change that set and see what happens when i button it up. Thanks for the info.

Do the valve stems wiggle any in the guides?

          No wiggles in stems.

When "I cracked the head loose a little less than a teaspoon of oil ran out of cyl. 4". Piston 4 had to be at TDC when you cracked the head loose. I'm no mechanic, but oil can not puddle in a cyl. while eng. is running. Most all oil being blown out through the ex. valve? Only oil in there would be the wet surface area of the combustion chamber and face of piston. That moisture couldn't amount to more than a few drops, sure no where near a teaspoon full. Also if that much oil was going past the rings and through the ex. valve, the ex. port on the 4 cyl. should be terribly black with old, goopy burnt oil residue, should be real obvious. I dun'no, just thinking out loud.

Exactly right! That oil entered during storage, and it couldn't have come past the rings unless the crankcase is completely filled to the top with oil/gas.

Repeating myself, but head gasket leak?
