Go to ebay and look for a new rectifier. Type in 1982 GS850 and look for a rectifier in the listings.

Thanks for posting pictures. We can help you now that you have posted pictures. (joking)
Looks looks like a nice 850G with aftermarket fairing and bags and trunk.
Relative to your charging issues... and relative to your aquiring tools, I didnt see any mention of getting voltmeter (also called multi meter or volt-ohm meter). You will need a volt meter to troubleshoot the charging system.
Intersting to see your enthusaim for working on these various problems yourself. Lots of folks here willing to help.
Oil on pant leg. Ew, I just been thru that this week.
I would say to see if you can find the highest and furtherest forward place that you find oil, and that will be your first clue. Then clean it all up the best you can, and then run it a little bit and see if you can verify your suspision, and then run some more to see if from somewhere else also. Tell us more what you find.
Maybe also post each problem in a seperate posting (for ease of reading the responces).

... sad how time flies...
*Update*
Changed oil and oil filter. Cleaned engine off with WD40 to see oil leak easier. Leak not coming from where I originally expected, looks like it's leaking from tach cable, slight crack where the cable screws into the engine. Slow drip leak, only when the oil is hot.
Still checking if there are leaks else where. Have not found it yet.
Changed gear oil, sigh, made quite a mess when the oil diverted across the pipe inward, learned to use m funnel more efficiently to divert it back into the oil bin.
Also changed my headlights. It had slyvania H6024 so I replaced it with the same. Not happy with the result, still dim as crap. Might need to adjust the vertical aim, but still, the light output is pretty crappy from what I can see.
Anyone have some input? I was thinking of doing a halogen conversion kit so that I can use H4 bulbs.Last edited by Guest; 06-09-2010, 12:17 AM.
