Gasket replacement
I purchased a GS550 from a friend. The engine leaks oil like a sieve so I am replacing the gaskets. I have the head and cylinders off. While I have the motor apart is there anything I should replace or check while I am in there. ALSO I am sure some crud fell into the crank case. Is there any cleaner I can run through there to clean it out?Tags: None

If you have the engine apart does that mean you have a manual or you just winged it?
In the manual check the specs for
ring gap
cylinder bore max/min measurements
valve play in the guides
Replace the valve stem oil seals
Hone the cylinder bores
I'd replace the rings
Did you mark all the shims so if the valve clearance was good you can just put them back from whence they came?1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.
1985 GS1150ES stock with 85 Red E bodywork.

Most certanily do I have the manual. I also marked the shims of where they came from and there clearances.
How hard is it to replace the rings and what is the break in process? I am also going to replace the valve stem oil seals.
As for as the cylinders, what are they supposed to look like? Mine are super smooth and zero grooving. Is honing cylinders something I can do? I have never done it
