Head Gasket Leak
The gasket between the cylinders and the cylinder head had a small leak before I started to adjust the valves. While I was adjusting the valves, I loosened the head volts and then retorqued them in the right sequence in two stages (to 15 lbs and then to 28 lbs). I think it is leaking more now. Could I have buggered the gasket by loosening and then retorqueing the cylinder head bolts?Tags: None

Sounds bad. You only want to loosen enough to get the nut moving and then go straight to tightening.Ed
To measure is to know.

I loosened all of them just enough to take the tension off. I then retorqued them in the sequence outlined in the manual (thanks, bikecliff) to 15 ft/lbs and then went through a second pass to 29.
I may be OK. There was some smoking during my ride this am. However, once I got back home, the smoking seemed to be much less than before. Maybe I was just burning off old oil on the outside.
