Differences between 1000G and 1100G head?
Anyone know how the 1100G head compares to the '80-'81 GS1000 head? Combustion chamber size the same or larger? Is the exhaust port height the same? I know the late model 1100G head has those nifty D shaped exhaust ports but is it the same otherwise? The part numbers are different so that's not a good sign for interchange.Ed

For what it's worth. I've never compared the 2 side by side and only ever worked on one 1100G (it is / was very unusual over here) but from what I can remember, from back in the day, they look the same (other than the D ports).79 GS1000S

Crank/clutch basket lower bits are different but according to the cycle mags of the day the 1000E and G are exchangable. Supposedly the racers went after the G heads because of said D shaped exaust ports. But again the cycle mags aren't always accurate.

Combustion chamber size and exhaust port location are the two main thing I’m trying to understand. There is a 1100G head on ebay I want to purchase, but I want to have the stock compression ratio and use a regular 1000 exhaust system (if I can find a good one that is).Ed

Well, I bought that 1100G head off ebay tonight. Less than 10k miles so couldnt' pass it up. Hopefully the combustion chamber is not much larger than the 1000 head. Concern with the exhaust ports is the height, not concern with the spacing. I plan to use an OE exhaust and want to fit like stock under the bottom of the engine.Ed

Head I bought off ebay was a POS: several stripped exhaust bolt holes, gouges on some cam bearing, and three valve spring buckets jammed in crooked due to poor packaging.
Sent the head back at my cost after the seller somewhat indigently agreed to take it back saying he would refund my money "if" the head could be verified as being the same one that he shipped.
So now the guy has had the head back for three days and I still don't have a refund. Sent him a note though ebay asking when he's going to process the return and he hasn't answered the message.
How long should I wait before giving this guy negative feedback and fill out a paypal dispute? I'm pretty impatient about stuff like this some times.Ed

damaged hesd ..... waiting for refund...
hi guys i know its a touchy subject ..but i,d send him a couple of emails being polite ..but reminding him that your not in the market for alloy scrap metal.. you did want a good to very good working head... wait a week for him to send refund .......then post neg.. slaming feedback that will wake him up ...also let everybody know what trading name he goes under on ebay... so that we all don,t end up helping to clean his shed of the scrap metal he doesn,t want ... a while ago i purchased 3 watches off ebay .com .au in aust.. from sydney... her feedback was around 90 or lower ..all i ended getting was 3 smashed watches in a paper envelope which taught me a lesson regards david

Keep all communication within Ebay.
File a case if unsatisfied with his responses. Ebay can see all communicatioin.
They refunded me my money on a pipe dream head that I never got.1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.

Ed, did you ask about any imperfections before the purchase? If so and the seller verified it as being good in writing then you can dispute the issue with ebay/paypal. If not, and its stated in the auction as being "no refunds, as is" then you may be out the purchase money.
If you've emailed the seller with unsatisfactory results then deal with ebay/paypal only. Let them know what's going on and they will deal with the seller.
Leaving the seller feedback pretty much closes the deal, good or bad. I'd hold off on that till the deal is resolved.sigpic
