    1983 GS450L Tach

After getting it running after sitting for 5 years I have discovered that the tachometer on my GS450L does nothing at all.

Where should I start with this? Are there common problems?

    Thanks, Mark

take the cable off the tack and start the engine ,

can you see in turning ? if so its the tach,

if not take the cable off the valve cover and see if its spinning in there.

If the cable is fine and spins when the engine is on then its the tach sticking and you should replace it But...

If you really want to get into it, take the tach off and cut the casing in half and see if you can find what is binding inside of it and clean it.

The way I did this was using a drillpress with a very thin cutting wheel.
Raise the table untill the disk is half way up the tach and rotate the tach while the disk is cutting all the way around. Then after its all fixed, and you have it reassembled, It will all be hidden inside the casing that slips over the tach. Just use some tape or epoxy to cover the cut all the way around.

    Hope this is useful.
