    Oil filter cover stud question

    Hi all,

I was in the process of replacing the oil and filter on my 1983 GS450L when I discovered that one of the studs that hold the filter cover on was stripped at the nut side. I will be stopping by my local dealer tomorrow to order replacement studs, unless I luck out and they are in stock.

Does anyone know the thread pitch on these studs?

Would you recommend locktite, anti seize, or nothing when replacing them?

    Thanks, Mark

      Thank you.

I order OEM when possible and should these be in stock, or available, I will replace them with originals. They are listed for little money and I feel safer with OEM anyway. Just wanted to chek on the pitch.

Any thoughts on dressing the threads prior to installation?

      Thanks, Mark

Here's another link. Probably most often, it's the threads that are stripped. I thought I had that situation but it just turned out that the stud was beginning to back out as the nut was removed. I would see nothing wrong with some blue loctite if your threads are okay and you put in a new stud.
