    base gasket removal

    Hello World....

Has anyone found a chemical that softens the cylinder base gasket so it's possible to remove ? My gasket is on a 30 year old GS 1000 G and it's almost welded to the cylinder base. It's impossible to get a knife or scraper into it so it has to be softened/dissolved with something.

Paint stripper is very similar to chemical gasket remover, only cheaper. It will take several applications, with scraping in between, but eventually it will come off.

I used some Permatex brand gasket remover. I applied it heavy, then waited a couple hours. Scraped right off with minimal effort, came out nice and clean. No gouges from the razor blade, either.
