Aftermarket Stainless bolt kit - check your clutch

Pulled my clutch out today to do the "spring mod" to stop the rattling.. I guess all the noise wasn't due to the springs (actually it is, I guess it probably "bedded in" like this pretty early on)!

Easy to check if yours is the same, pull the bolt & check the end of it, you'll be able to see where it touched.

It's hit the clutch basket & the first fibre.....

Use a little RTV and a washer on that one. You're not the first to do this and not the last.
Oh yeah, use a shorter bolt.

Bolt is the closest one in the kit to the same length as stock so I am assuming I am missing washer or something plus it's probably a little longer than stock.
On the 1000 case cover it stands off from what you can see here by about an inch so the bolt does need some length.

Guess I will measure carefully before I put this one back!!

            come on man!!!
always plunge a through hole with something and then do the math.
            long bolt/short/through hole syndrome.

Too trusting of the aftermarket kit along with measuring alongside the stock bolt giving me confidence I guess.... Live and learn. Looks like it made it's own room a long time ago!
It's been in there about 7-8k miles.

This came from the stainless bolt kit from Z1. Ed has the same kit on the 1000S he is working on now & says that most of the bolts in his kit are too long, including that one...!

I guess just because it says GS1000 on the packet we shouldn't necessarily trust that it's right!
