    FAT shims

From most of the reads I gather the majority of shims needing replaced are of the smaller size.

Working on the 78 and it seems that I need one as large as 3.10mm(NOT AVAILABLE).
Does this seem a bit unusual?
None of them require smaller than 2.65.

That does seem odd, maybe an improperly seated seal?

Something is causing the valve to hang open.

Unusual but not unheard of - maybe some one ground the top off the valve to max?

3.10 is available - part number 12892-45019 or 12892-45000-310. It's the fattest available so I would check everything else is right.

          shim club

I have a bunch of thicker shims available. A couple are 3.10 from Suzuki. Check the inventory in the shim club thread. Ray

Try running a compression test to see if your valve is hanging open. Are your cam journals wearing? What size was in there before?

I checked compression. Good in all but one but the bike has been sitting for years. Cant remember which one was low but, if a valve were stuck open would it have any comp at all?
Which brings me to another question. Perhaps there is some kinda buildup from sitting?

I think I'll just shim according to specs, run the bike(hopefully) and recheck em in short order. Re-shim if need be.
