    GS850 whines when coasting

I have a 1982 GS850 and it has developed a problem. It whines very loudly when coasting. Not effected by the clutch being in or out. I am worried about it failing or seizing so I am not riding it. Does not whine at all when power is applied. Any ideas?

Peel back the boot between the swingarm and the engine, and see if the u-joint wiggles around.

The u-joint itself never goes bad, but sometimes a problem develops with the bearing on the output shaft of the engine. Any up and down play in this bearing is NG.
