However... I have a noise like a spanner being tapped against the crank case in groups of two. "Tap Tap...tap tap... Tap tap" it does seem louder on the left although it's difficult to hear exactly where it's coming from. It increases speed with revs but not as much when under load. Besides that though the bike actually goes just fine and seems to be very smooth. Any ideas guys and gals?

Tap tap... Tap tap... ????? Help!
I have a gs650gl. I finally got it started today after nearly a month of reassembling. All seems good. Got it running sweetly and cleanly. Pulls well as well.

Ok fair does! Star! Many thanks! it does look to be that but If it does turn out to be anything else at any point I'll let you know so you can sort your mates. I'll take it for a spin tomorrow and see if it explodes lol :-) not ridden it anywhere yet other than up and down my road for testing.

I had the same tik-tik-tik.........tik-tik-tik.......tik-tik-tik...... earlier Only when it's warmed up. Now, after a cyl head rebuild I tested it yesterday when it was very hot outside and it got worse and worse as it warmed up. Usually it is just a quiet tik...tik....tik but yesterday... wow.
so I may need to change the chain? Any advice how to open the old chain? I was going to do a check and cleaning on the tensioner too...
