Heres the symptoms: When I first fire up the bike there are no noises. Once the bike gets fully warmed up, out come the sounds. There are 2 different sounds I'm definitely hearing. Both sounds immediately disappear once the bike gets above 1500 or so rpm's.
1.: A rattling sound that seems to be mostly eminating around the clutch area. However, it makes no difference whether the clutch is in or out. Or if the bike is in gear or neutral. As long as the rpm's are around idle the noise is there. It almost sounds like 2 gears intermittently grazing one another. And I can hear it while I slowly let out the clutch to take off. But it goes away once rpm's rise. I can feel it in the bars.
2.: A ticking or somewhat chirping sound that basicly is present at exactly the same times that the rattle sound is present. Although this sound just doesn't seem to be in one certain area. There is no steady pace to it. It is intermittent. Only there when warmed up. And immediately goes away above 1500 or so rpm's. You know how on some vehicle if you put the engine under heavy load at high speed they will make a rattle sound (some refer to it as valve rattle or maybe predetonation I believe). It sounds like that tone, but only happens at below 1500 rpms and never any other time.
I never hear either noise while riding the bike. It sounds and feels very smooth. Sound number one can be felt in the bars when at idle (warmed up). The clutch does barely slip at high rpm's, and althought the noise is the same whether i have the clutch pulled in or not, could this be a clue that it is related to maybe a loose hub or something? Or does the fact that the lever doesn't change the sounds rule that out?
I took some decent video capturing both sounds, which both seem to always happen at the same time. I'll try to upload it after work. I wish I could let one of the gurus hear it in person. This bike really seems to run well. And I like to find out if its just a normal old bike thing to not worry about. Or if it needs fixed immediately.
