New and unusual sound that goes away...

I recently did a valve shim job... just thought I'd mention that.

I'm hoping this sound is familiar and a "usual suspect". When my bike is cold and I start it, the bike first sounds very good. Then out of nowhere, and with gentle throttle to bring the revs up a little bit, suddenly from the LEFT SIDE there is this sound that sounds like two pieces of metal rattling off each other... and it is definitely related to rpms... but when the motor warms up the sound disappears... it is a rattling sound and is quite loud. It is NOT a knocking or striking or clicking sound... it is a hollow rattle like two thick pieces of tin.

The thing that worries me is that it is an "on/off" sound - there is no "in between". If this isn't immediately familiar to someone I will get a good microphone and record the sound soon.

    Hi,

When I first start my bike in the morning it rattles and sounds like a bag of ball bearings until the oil gets up to the cams. Then it quiets down. It usually takes about ten or fifteen seconds and then I'll hear a noticeably quieter engine.

    Thank you for your indulgence,
