Sump plug torque specs??

Anyone know the specs for tightening the drain plug? Don't see it in my manual?

Tighten it snug, and no tighter. The sump has aluminum threads which are easily stripped, especially if it has been partially cross threaded at one time or if the threads are full of debris. If you use a 3/8 drive ratchet and socket, when it feels tight and the plug gasket is seated, thats good enough.

Yep, don't overtighten it, it will strip...just snug enough so it doesn't drip...shouldn't be much. No need for gorilla torque.

finger tight then a tweek

if it leaks, tweek a lil more.... if it doesn't then it's fine

I parked my old Yamaha 650 in front of a bike shop once, came back out, spotted some oil dripping. Looked underneath, the drain plug had backed out, it was about halfway unscrewed.

So don't get too carried away with the finger tight thing, they can come out.

I would say 8 ft pounds or so must be about right?

Or you could safetywire it in after finger tight and a skosch,nudge,bump,squeeze, or whatever you call just a little more
