    Difference between 82 or 83 GSX750S Katana Engine and standard GSX750E

    What's the difference between the 1982 or 1983 GSX750S Katana TSCC engine and the standard TSCC 750 engine like the 1981 or 1982 GSX750E?

    They look exactly alike but I was told by a suzuki dealer back in the 1980's that the 1982 & 1983 GS750S/GSX750S had changes over the standard model like cams, timing, jetting, piston crown were changed on the Katana motor and some parts strengthed.

    I know the GSX1100 Katana engine had changes over the standard GSX1100. A USA Magazine detailed the changes (I think it was Cycle Guide).

    I've also heard recently from someone else that the 750 Katana engine was the exact same engine as the GSX750 engines of other models in the same year with NO changes for the sporty Katana. The only real changes are carb and exhaust restictions for detuned versions sold to countries with HP restrictions.

    Also does anyone know of a detailed magazine review that talks about the 1981 to 1983 GSX750 Katana engine (like the USA magazine I mentioned above did with the Katana 1100 engine)? Kind of an engine teardown technical review of the GS750S.

    Edit: I just did it and the pistons and cams appear different. The question now is how different?

      The 750 Kat engine had 2 hp more than standard versions (at least on the German market it had...) Dunno by which modifications though...

        I do not know about the States, but here on my side of the pond, the GSX750, which in the States was the 4 valve TSCC engined GS750 came out with a normal white metal bearing crank, as opposed to the normal roller crank, which I never understood, as it is the only model to have it, the 1100 4 valve TSCC motor here also had the normal roller crank, which here was designated the GSX1100

          gs750 (4 valve) was roller wasn't it.... the GS(X)750 was shell bearings. an easy way to tell the difference between the uk kat and the gs(x) motors are their engine numbers.... kat 750 started r701xxx the the std gs(x) were gs75xxx

          the kat mototors as already mentioned had different crowns to give a higher CR, higher lift cams, not sure on their rods but the 11's certainly have stronger rods than a std 11 motor. the r701 used 34cv carbs as std (with the samer jetting as the 11's), the other 750's were 32cv's with smaller jets etc...

          not sure on their exhaust headers but there is a difference between std 750's and 11's anyway so maybe the kats were the same... no idea however

            Correct, seems the U.K designation was the same as here, our GSX750 had the plain bearing crank, in the States it was designated as a GS750, although it had the 4 valve TSSC motor we associate with the GSX.
            Here all GS's were 2 valve jobs, all 4 valve motors were GSX motorcycles, this included but was not limited to the Katana series which had a Z designator in it, SXZ if I recall correctly.
