Clutch will not disengage

My clutch lever was kind of sticking when I would release it, so I decided to try and replace the clutch cable myself. After finding out that it is a lot more work than meets the eye, I have done something to make the clutch not disengage at all.

The guy at the parts store told me just pull off that panel and you can change out the cable. Here is the panel he told me to pull off.

Click the small pictures, they are only thumbnails. The pictures would be too big for me to post.

So I pulled it off, and now here is what I have.


Note that post that I marked with an arrow. I think this is my problem.

Here is that panel from the back. The steel line coming down is the clutch cable.

The hole in the middle of that mechanism is where that post goes.

So like I said, the clutch doesnt disengage. The lever works ok, and returns to its resting position. The circle in the middle of this turns when I pull the clutch lever.

But it still wont disengage.

Now I think the problem is that post, which turns freely in the hole it is in right now. It also feels like I could pull it out, but I don't know if its holding anything inside.

Anyone know what I did, and what I can do to fix it?




EDIT: I wanted to point out, the gear selector works, and the engine starts (but only with kick because it wont start with clutch engaged), the clutch just wont disengage.

you need to adjust your worm gear.
loosen lock nut/run center bolt in till touches and then turn out 1 turn and lock the nut down.

OK that didnt work, but now the suspect is the spring might not be letting me get a proper adjustment. I assume the spring (part number 10 on that diagram) is not supposed to be bent like this.

the spring pulls the arm back to keep pressure off of the throw out bearing and such.
it really should'nt make the clutch work or not work.

i would play with the lock nut adjuster... you need to try every extreme, the most farthest adjust out till the most adjusted in where theres almost no room for the lock nut to go on (not that bad but you get the idea), this is your solution gaurenteed, you need to try every position... take apart your clutch discs and inspect also, its all easy work anyway so you may as well see

That is true, but it doesnt pull the clutch release all the way back, making adjusting the worm gear difficult to adjust. I got it to a point where I could turn the rear wheel by hand but it was difficult, and it didnt allow the electric ignition to start the bike.

Im not completely sure about the mechanics of it, but is it supposed to push that rod into the transmission or is it supposed to turn it?

OK so I got all my parts that I stripped out or ruined somehow in the process today.

I got the clutch adjusted now, and it will engage and disengage, but the electric start doesnt work now. I assume it thinks the clutch is not disengaged.
