    Piston rings ?

What is the differences with R piston ring and N piston rings? My old set are N's the new set are R's?

Different manufacturers use a different letter to indicate the top side of the ring.
They should be made to the same spec so no problems.

According the factory service manual for the GS1000 (typical for other models as well), the 'R' stamped into it for identification should face upward during install. I'm not sure what the N indicates but you might want to check the service manual for your bike to see if there is any meaning.

Just two different sets of rings. My manual says they can be either R or N type and not to mix them. The oil rings are completely different between the two.

Thanks for the info! The thing that I wanted to know is what is the difference between the two types. The main difference is the oil ring. I was hoping that the R set is better then the N set. The original set are Ns.
