    I need some sprocket help...

    I'm running a YZF600R rear wheel on my 1981 Suzuki GS750E. What I need is a 520 38t sprocket. I'm hoping to be able to find a steel sprocket that will work...maybe one available for another model bike...but I can't find a reference to tell me. I checked sprocket specialist site and they only have 46t. They say they can go down to 38 on a $80 aluminum sprocket...I'll take a drill to a proper sprocket before I do that.

    Anyone know of a better option?

    I could have you one milled, but it likely won't be cheap. WTF would you want A steel sprocket?? Weight.....

      38T , last time a saw a sprocket this small it was on my Drz436 supermoto.
      And 80$ for a custom sprocket is not a bad price.

        "Normally" the countershaft or front sprocket is steel and the rear is aluminum alloy. Since the overall objective is the final drive ratio, can you adjust the front sprocket size?

          Normally both sprockets are steel.

          A 38 tooth sprocket is small, abnormally small. Considering front sprockets typically cost about 1/3 what a rear costs I'd consider a change that way, although I don't know what kind of clearance issues are involved.

            I thought about doing the front sprocket...however, I'm running 16/38 right now using a GS500E rear sprocket (lots of bikes actually run smaller sprockets), but the bike is still geared just a little short. The YZF came witha 47t sprocket, but I can get a 46t piece from sprocket specialists.

            The 160/60 is a little taller than my 130mm tire...I was hoping to use the same gear combo and drop the RPM just a bit.

            If I have to drop $80 on the aluminum piece, then so be it...I just hate that I'll have a sprocket on there that won't last as long as a tire, where a steel piece would last as long as the bike.
