Suzuki Cylinder Head Marking: S-1, S-2 etc

So while picking through a pile of GS1000 heads today, Tkent02 & I noticied that the suzuki cylinder heads had different casting marks embossed on the head. One was S-2 another S-4 (GS1100G D Port). I think the one on my bike might be a S-1.

Does anyone know the significance of the S-1 vs S-2 vs S-3 vs S-4 and where that information is published?

    This is what I've seen...

1980 GS1000S CV carb head with S-1 (two examples)

    1982 GS1100G head with S-5

Unknown year CV carb GS1000G head with S-4
