    GS1000 Right front motor mount

I am buttoning up my GS1000 revival and found that I cannot get the bolt into the front top motor mount, the bottom bolt goes in. It appears that I have an alignment issue on top. I have loosened up the mount but still cannot get it. I took out the bolts to remove the nasty case savers and now I cannot get them back. The previous owner was having issues with the bike going through chains. Could the motor be skewed in the frame? Any ideas?

I suggest loosening all the engine mount bolts and placing a jack under the engine so you can move it around. Hopefully you can find a position where the engine is happy and all the bolts align.

I tried loosening all the front mounts including removing the rod in front of the engine, when I did that I could mount the frame bolts but not the engine rod that attaches to the engine. When the frame bolts are attached it looks like the engine on the left side needs to go back a 16th or so for the cross rod to attach. I looks like I need to loosen up more mounts.

I have looked the frame over and see no evidence of damage or rust so I would say no.

hmmm. ya got me. i do know that there are many different motor mounts around that are real close in size and shape. over the thirty something years of your bike's life many odd things may have happened.

a sixteenth ain't much though. i think i remember having to do a bit of wiggling last year when i put my engine in.

Update, after loosening all the motor mounts I was able to jack the engine up a bit and wiggle the mounts in. Then I tightened everything up. Thanks to everyone for their help.
