Bent shifting fork? Or worn dogs?

How can you determine whether the shifting forks are bent or the gear dogs are worn. My bike pops out of second gear at about 3500 rpm. Today I had my foot resting on the shifter (very slightly) and I got it up to 5000 plus rpm and it stayed in gear. I assumed that the dogs on the gear are worn, but now I am wondering.

it doesn't matter..
cases have to be split anyways and unless someones "the great kreskin"
they would be guessing anyways.
FYI
a bent fork will keep the dogs and slots from 100% engagement and make for worn dogs...
get to work now and make sure you send the tranny to have it back cut and replace your damaged forks and check the straightness of the shaft the forks ride on.

My bike was doing the same as yours...
The dogs were worn, it was easy to see after I split the case...
I changed the forks just to be sure. They don't cost much and I was in there anyway.

Back cutting the gears is the best way to fix it, but an alternative is to find a good, used transmission and just swap it in.
They are easy to find and don't cost an arm and a leg.
