    Swing arm bearing repleacement.

Hello again. I have a 1983 750t. The swing arm bearings don't need to be replaced but seeing as how I'm going replace the rear wheel bearing, I might as well do this. My question is what parts do I need to replace when doing the job? Bearings, races, what? I don't want to go crazy but i only want to do it once. Thanks!

It is a real headache to remove the bearings from the swing arm, you will have to use a dremel or similar to remove the outer case that presses into the swing arm. You will not know what parts you will need till you get it apart. Often there will be masses of rust in there due to water ingress and lack of grease and regular servicing.

You will definitely need the two roller bearings about $20 each (22X29X30mm). Probably the two spacers as well if rusted about $12 a piece. And the swing arm bolt if it has bad corrosion and cannot be cleaned up with emery paper, etc.

When I did mine I installed a grease nipple on the swinger so I could apply grease in the future when ever I chose. Not a hard thing to do.

Finished job, but had swinger powder coated after this so end product looked a bit better than this.

Pull new bearings in with threaded rod, nuts and washers.

Thanks! From the online tutorials, other posts, and yours; I have an idea of what I'm getting into. I didn't think about the rust inside though. The bike was mostly garaged so I hope I'm ok. Btw, the grease nipple is a great idea! Is their only one nipple though? No secondary for the old grease to drain out of when you put new grease in? (I'm talking when you add it regularly.)

The excess grease will push out the ends of the swinger where the bolt end and large nut are positioned. As the new grease is pumped into the central portion of the swing arm it will push the old grease out ahead of it until it comes out the other end under the caps on either end of the swinging arm. You may find you need to loosen the large nut and knock the bolt back a slight amount to allow the old grease to be pushed out.

The bearings may be fine. I'd take a look at them, along with the inner spacer before spending a bunch of money. If they look good, regrease them with something like marine grease and slap the bike back together.

I don't think you will regret it, it has to be better than how it was set up originally.
