My 4 new rubber intake manifolds finally arrived (yay) for my '81 gs1100e, now I can get going on fixing the lean-running condition that was probably caused by my old intake manifolds which were cracked.

However these new manifolds are quite stiff. I noted that and Suzuki told me (well the guys at the Suzuki dealer) to put some silicone spray to ease them on. I'm concerned about any unknown (to me) side effect of spraying these guys with silicone spray and was considering something else, maybe margarine or butter, or dish soap, or maybe -- due to the heat -- just water on the things so when the motor gets hot there is nothing there that won't quickly vanish.

So yes I've never installed new rubber intake manifolds on a bike. These are stiff and won't go on easily -- any recommendations for ease-of-installation without any 'hangover' of chemicals on the new rubber?

With new intake boots, you shouldn't need anything, at least I dont. It does take muscle to pop the carbs on them tho, I have to put a 2x4 in front of my front tire so the bike doesnt roll off the centerstand when I am pushing the carbs forward onto the boots. With my older hard boots sometimes I used a bit of oil on them to help them slip on.
