this is kinda what i was thinking and i think you hit the nail on the head with that one, as this was a progressive thing getting worse and to the point of not even starting.. i think the valves and chain are all in somewhat good condition, im not gonna even post pics right now im like 100% sure it is the points and condensors, my friend did scare me and say the motor was pretty much toasted etc. cam chains etc. thank you all for your replies every one of them helped a lot seriously

edit: heh its funny because i act like the problem is all solved and everything it would be funny as hell if it wasnt the probem... anyways thank you all again

The condensers can be tested, typically they are .25 microfarads.

          Here's a simple test.

Confirm that your points are opening

          Leave the cover off

Try to start your bike in the dark - are there sparks at the points?

          Yes = bad condensors

i dont know my friend said he thinks maybe i ran the bike too hard and it might have stretched the chain out causing it to skip?
Racers run the same engine wide open for hours at a time with no problems, I doubt you ran it too hard. A lot of us run the dog **** out of them for years and years, flog them mercilessly, again no worries.
Quit guessing and fix all the crap everyone on this forum says you need to fix, quit listening to people who now nothing. Did you even adjust the valves yet? Jumped time! Right! that's enough already, it's getting lame.

Whenever a buddy or anybody tries to tell you what's wrong with your bike, ALWAYS ALWAYS take it with a grain of salt at first.
              (unless there's obvious proof)

Believe me, no offense, but a lot of people don't know jack **** about these GS bikes, most people "think" they know, since they know-a-guy who knows-a-guy who had a similar problem,

I've had people give me misleading advice like crazy, mechanics, motorcycle mechanics, jet mechanics......trust me, don't be sucked in Just because they have a fancy job title, lol......ask it HERE.....the people HERE know for sure!!!

Good thing that New York is too far for a weekend drive.

                  Thread Hijack

Hey Steve, I only live in the next state. When I get my GPz top end back from Pearson Racing, you'll have to make a weekend trip here to far east Indy for a top end install - cam timing - get'r'running party. Steaks are on me.

                  Thread hijack over.
Gabriel, I have never seen a street 4-stoke bike jump time on the chain.

                    Hijack back in progress.

OK, "Kid", just one small problem.

Yeah, I have a mailing address just one state away, but I'm still down here in Mississississippippi.

That puts me a 'mere' 625 miles away.

Can you wait until after I get home, mid-November?

But I know know how long I'll be home, either.

OK, returning back you your regularly-scheduled thread.

Ok Gabe, to much at once.

Set everything to stock and start from there.
You went from chain jump to timing to guessing the jettings wrong. You need to baseline the bike and do ONE thing at a time.

baseline the carbs than set and adjust point gap and timing.
THEN start tuning in the mixture

heh i was all over the place but i just got the bike to start running today, before it wouldnt even start which was my main problem, now that its running its like a different bike now because it has no power to even get out of gear... the plugs are all soaked and black so basically i have a new rich problem out of no where.. i did sorta "baseline the carbs" and did the points and condesnors today which are all gapped perfectly and the timing is perfect according to the service manual... i really think my jets are too big because the carbs are really spot on clean now that i broke em down the other day and started for the first time today

So at high RPM and wide open throttle the engine is running too rich?
Or at some other time where the main jets are not involved?

all the time from 0 rpm all the way up to 9k rpm the bike sounds totally different i think my main jet is so off that its affecting everything?
