Product review: OTC-4572 valve spring compressor
I have my cylinder head off (long story) and wanted to replace valve seals. I tried the 6" c-clamp method and didn't have much luck. I found the OTC-4572 on ebay (several other places sell it) and it's around $50~$60 shipped. Kind of expensive, but well worth the cost to me, especially after I almost lost two keepers using the other method. The tool has circular parts (two diameters, they unscrew so you can swap them out) with cutouts that compress the spring. The cutouts are large and allow fairly easy access to the keepers. The larger of the two was a perfect fit for my GS1000G 8V head. I clamped the head to my bench with the 6" c-clamp I had been using, and this allowed me access to 4 valves at a time. This tool has the range and stability needed to get the job done, and is a great investment if you do your own work. Here's a picture of it:
