    Crank & Conrod conversion question

Does anyone know if the con rods from a GS1100G are swap-able into a GS1000? and what about the big end (is that a do-able swap).

A Friend with need of a set of con rods and big end for a GS1000 asked if my GS1100G parts are ok to use on his 1000.

    Has anybody done this?

The 1100G con rods use a larger bearing than the 1000. The shaft drive main bearings are larger too.

Ed the main bearings seem to be the same on all 1000 and 1100 roller crank motors. The part numbers are the same. Part# 09264-32009 replaces earlier part numbers 09264-32003, 09264-32005, 09264-32008.
      Bearing size: 32X78X21mm.

Or am I mistaken, I am not a large motor expert.

        Don,

Well, I'll be ding danged. Right you are.

When rebuilding my 1000S engine I tried to install an 1000G crank and it wouldn't fit. Thought it was the bearing sizes but obviously I was mistaken. I do know the 1000G Starter Clutch takes a larger bearing but still fits the chain drive 1000 crank.

Yes Ed I was just thinking that if the main bearings were the same size then the crank might be a "drop in " as the bearing would fit the case OK, dowels and all. But not so if you have tried it and it doesn't work. So much for my thought processes. As said before I am not a BIG motor person.

i have both here, if i remember correctly the stroke is not the same and the 1100g have a larger or longer left hand end.I checked this about 1 and half year ago.

i have a gs1100g crank that i can take some mesurement if you want.

Hi guys, Thanks for the responses. I have forwarded my friend the thread link to see your responses but I guess it's not looking so good, if Kochic is correct.

I have the 1100G crank which I can measure but don't have a 1000 crank, so if anyone has one which they can measure, I can knock up a picture with some measurements for comparison to the 1000 crank??

              Any takers?

ONE big problem with your idea ? IS the roller motor, the crank needs to be disassemble to change the rods. A very expensive job

The shaft drive cranks have the primary gear located differently than the chain drive. The gear is where a bearing should be and the bearing is where the gear should be.

Cheers guys. It's a dead issue for us now as someone else has just bought them on an auction I had listed.
