Pin Removal
So, I have the head off as well as the cylinders. I would like to remove the deck locating pins. Replacements are available for .99 but the main reason is they are in the way of properly cleaning the parts. Is there a preferred method for removing them. They are stuck in their holes pretty tightly. Currently letting them soak with penetrating oil.Tags: None

Hey Don, if you are replacing them anyway, just grab them nice and firmly in a vice grip and turn them back and forth as you pull them out, otherwise a little heat should work if you have a torch.

Even looking up the part number that is on the tool, I couldn't find it on the Craftsman site!
So, I took one out and downloaded some pic's for everyone.
It was the FIRST tool that I grabbed when I had the same problem.
Either go in at 90 degrees to the handle and turn or go in straight from the top and turn.

Daniel,
Believe it or not, I have a pair of those pliers. I purchased them years ago from Craftsman only I thought they were outside C clip pliers. Anyway, I tried them but it still wouldn't budge. Next I tried the vise grips and of course the pin being hollow, it collapsed inward with clamp pressure. I then used those pliers to round the pin back out and put the largest size drill bit shank that would fit inside it. I used a 21/64 in this instance. With the bit keeping the pin from collapsing, the vise grips finally coaxed it free.
