    1980 1100 head bolt trouble

    The PO twisted off the small head bolt on my ride. It is the outboard one between the two heavier head studs. Then the dumass just glued a shorter bolt in so a prospective buyer (me) wouldn't notice. It is not leaking at the present time. Do I tear it down or just keep an eye on it?

      If it's not leaking, leave it alone

      The head gasket is probably fused to the head and cylinders after 30 years, why mess with it until you need to?

      It will let you know if there's a problem by weeping oil

        Agreed -- don't worry about it.

        Look at it this way -- max torque on that bolt is only 7 foot-pounds -- it's not going to make much difference in clamping force or anything.


        So he glued the broken stub of the bolt back in the hole? That's just demented.
