79 head on 80 block will it work

I am pretty sure i bent my valves
I see a 79 head on e-bay now
will it fit my 80 g looking at it dont see any difference i will alsl look up the part number as well

Presuming it's for the 850 in your signature, yes, it will fit, but you will have to use the '79 carbs that go with it.

Not sure if the boots from the carbs to the airbox are different, you may have to have those, too.

Wait and get the correct head !!!!! Not sure of valve sizes but if it is cheap enough to use for parts it to fix your head

I recommend you change the valves and keep your old head. It shouldn't be too difficult to find some decent used 850 valves. Try the Parts Wanted forum and/or ebay.

I'd suggest taking the valves off and figuring out jus how much damage there is. Once you get the knack for removing them, it's still irritating, but is easily done. You may be lucky and only one or two need to be replaced, and it's a perfect opportunity to re-lap the valves

'77-79 750 and '79-82 850 valves are the same part numbers.
As well as the springs, retainers, keepers.
The intake manifold bolt spacing is wider on the '80-up heads as well as the ports are larger diameter to accommodate the 30-34CV carbs.

After reading I decided to slow my roll and pull the head and see what is going on
Hey it's good time spent with my bike.
Can 1 or 2 teeth on the intake make that big of difference?
I counted the 20 pins from exhaust cam over to the intake but what was confusing me although not mentioned anywhere I saw was the marks at the end of the cams the exhaust when #1 is lined up also has its notch or flat area line up with the head but my intake it is an either or 20 pins or the notch or flat spot lined up

I agree with Steve, it's difficult to understand what's going on here. Using complete sentences with punctuation (periods) would help to explain with a proper level of detail.

If I'm reading your last post correctly you're saying that you can either have 20 pins from number 2 on the exhaust cam to number 3 on inlet cam, OR you can have the notches on the ends of the cam facing each other. You really need to have both these things correct. Are you sure they are the correct cams? Timing set wrongly is a bad thing, trust me i know am now rebuilding my head after making that mistake. Won't do it again though

yes exactly I cannot get them to be both correct at the same time.
